04.04.2025: Fastenkalender (31) – Pride

Am 4. April 1968 wurde in Memphis/Tennessee der schwarze Bürgerrechtler und Pastor Martin Luther King ermordet. Er war ein überzeugter Kämpfer für die gleichen Rechte aller und Aufebung jeglicher Rassentrennung, er war ein Verfechter zivilen Ungehorsams als politisches Mittel, aber auch des gewaltlosen Widerstands.
Ehren wir ihn heute mit der Hymne Pride, veröffentlicht 1984 nach dem Tod von Martin Luther King auf dem Album The unforgettable fire.
Bono sagte über den Song einmal: „Wir bauen lieber auf das Positive, als mit dem Finger auf das Negative/Böse (Reagan) zu zeigen. Pride (In The Name Of Love) ist all denjenigen gewidmet, die ihr Leben im Kampf für Gleichberechtigung oder Freiheit geben mussten.
Der Fokus aber auf Martin Luther King: „Early morning, April 4 / Shot rings out in the Memphis sky / Free at last, they took your life / They could not take your pride.“
